A wavy glass and a terracotta terraced pavilion opened at the Tivoli Gardens with great public success. The new building transforms the western boundary of the historic park and brings new emotion to the urban core of Copenhangen.

Designed by the internationally recognized architectural studio Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, based in New York, the project houses a restaurant, shops, restaurants and hotel rooms and is surmounted by a landscaped rooftop.
The distinctive design of Tivoli Hjørnet (Tivoli Corner), which runs 108 metres along Bernstorffsgade, was inspired by the fortification walls and moat that surrounded the historic town and remains imprinted on the garden plan. Its modest staircase is in harmony with Tivoli's 19th century entrance pavilion and adjacent Nimb Hotel and the immediate vicinity, preserving the dominance of the spires on the skyline and the vertical structures of the garden.
Both a portal to the imaginative world of Tivoli and a mirror reflecting the real life of Copenhagen of which it is part, Tivoli Hjørnet has several faces to the city and the park inside. On the street side, the corrugated glass wall embodies the lively spirit for which Tivoli is known, capturing nuances of changing light while providing solar shading and insulation.
On the garden side, the terracotta cladding is reminiscent of Copenhagen's tradition of warm clay masonry, as well as its heritage of wooden shipbuilding. A series of curvilinear terraces with private gardens for hotel guests culminates in a landscaped rooftop, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the park below and the city.
"Tivoli is a place that inspires involuntary dreaming," notes Ian Bader, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners' partner and lead designer for the project. "The extraordinary natural landscape and evocative atmosphere of Tivoli can and should be part of everyday life in Copenhagen. By increasing the magic of Tivoli's interior, this initiative preserves and enriches the experience of visiting the garden".
