Multipurpose building in Vietnam. Construction made of Soil and Bamboo within the congested urban areas

Bamboo & Earth, is a project started by H & P Architects in 2013 consisting of a series of buildings to create "welcoming spaces in congested urban areas". BE Friendly Space is an open space for the community that links aspects of culture and art

BE space should therefore undertake the mission of improving the turbulent relationship between man and nature in modern times. Located in the centre of the city of Mao Khe, BE's friendly space is made of locally available everyday materials. It was built with simple construction operations and with the participation of local builders

The entire project consists of 40 cm thick earthen walls, adjacent to each other in a zigzag pattern that carves out green spaces of fundamental importance in everyday life. These open spaces are also connected by randomly positioned windows

Above the space used there is an alternating double layer of bamboo roof to regulate light and air and to blur the boundary between interior and exterior, architecture and landscape. The objective of BE friendly space is to contribute to raising social awareness about the need for "friendly" spaces for the community in the context of the urbanization and concretization that is gradually stifling Mao Khe, one of the most populous cities in Vietnam, thus helping to shape community activities in the process of creating sustainable spaces
