Aesthetics and Movement. Drawing speed through the body and aerodynamics

Samothrace is not just a motorcycle but a design object, designed by Mario Trimarchi for De Castelli. In this stylistic work the designer challenges himself by drawing speed through the shapes of the body and giving the object a sense of adrenaline

The bike is a reflection of the aesthetics of movement. The designer has long been committed to understanding how to draw speed. He has intertwined this obsession with that of the passage of time, which is part of the great themes of our relationship with objects

The result is a motorcycle that seems to move by itself, as if it was created by sequential frames. The drawing follows the shapes of the body on the motorcycle, recreating a sense of adrenalinic tension, physical and mental for those who drive at high speed on the object. The typical curves of aerodynamics are discarded and the hull that conceals the interiors of engineering shatters following the logic of time-lapse, a visual interpretation of speed

With time and the natural oxidation of copper, which from the natural tones of metal turns to green, the object aligns with time. The motorcycle will be completely oxidized only after one hundred years, so it is the new generation who will enjoy its transformed aesthetic appearance: a new temporal paradigm thus changes the perception of the durability of our objects
